How to choose the wing sizes for your TAKUMA® foils?

The choice of wings for your foil depends on many factors and requires a little understanding of the sport.

Some of these factors:
  • Your level of experience in water board sports
  • The type of foiling you want to practice; Wing Foil (powered by a wing)SUP Foil (powered by a paddle)SURF Foil (powered by the waves) • other...
  • The kind of conditions and places where you think practicing your sport.
  • Your weight also plays a role in your choice.

The following presents general notions on foil wings.
Ideally, you should communicate with Us. We are here to help you. (use the links below)

Generally

The smaller the surface of the foil wing (cm²) :
  • More efficient downwind
  • More efficient at high speed and in waves
  • More responsive and tight turns
  • Faster, but harder to master
  • Less effective with pumping displacement
  • Plus difficile à entrer et rester en mode foil (demande plus de vitesse)
Normally, suitable for surfers with experience in board sports.
It will facilitate the sport for all levels of "Riders" for Wind Foil, Kite Foil and SUP Foil
(with paddle) in strong winds and big waves.

The larger the surface area of the foil wing (cm²):
  • Accepts heavier Riders
  • Less efficient downwind
  • Less efficient at high speed and in waves
  • Slower, but easier to master
  • Less responsive, wider turns
  • Easier when pumping
  • Easier to enter and stay in foil mode (requires less speed)
Normally suitable for surfers new to the sport and heavier builds. It can also facilitate the sport for all levels of "Riders" for Wind Foil, Kite Foil and SUP Foil (with paddle) with calmer winds and waters.
